Temple Beth Sholom (TBS) and Temple Beth Tikvah (TBT) have a strong history in North Orange County and have begun working together to support the great Jewish experience in the area. By working together, we form a unique structure and can craft engagement to promote the overall relationship of Sholom v’Tikvah, Peace and Hope, for North Orange County’s greater Jewish population that is both affiliated and unaffiliated with opportunities to engage with formal Jewish experiences. We’ll be able to establish clear access and awareness of the Jewish community that is currently present in the area. By formalizing the partnership with a $25,000 collaborative programming grant awarded by the Orange County Jewish Community Fund, the Sholom Tikvah Experience (STE) we will continue to support the existing communities by having more tandem programs and relationships.
STE establishes a programmatic calendar with six Shabbaton, with various day selections to provide a variety of engagement openings, and additional programming that intermingles with established programs each congregation can fully host. For the focused Shabbaton we will ensure weekend programs have explicit Jewish values thematic framework. Themes to be included are Shalom Bayit (peace in the home), Tikvah (hope), Tikkun Olam (repairing the world), B’tzelem Eloheim (all made in the divine image), Ahavat Chesed (love and caring), and Tzedek (justice). Beyond the Shabbaton we are formulating programming that intermingles with established programs each congregation can fully host.
Through the STE we will be promoting the establishment of stronger community roots that reach beyond our synagogue doorsteps. This ensures clear representation for Jewish life in North Orange County and promotion of association with formal Jewish organizations. Participants will receive enhanced regular engagement of Jewish values and practices that support their involvement and stronger bonds with our non-Jewish partners and unaffiliated Jews. These programs will stretch our communities embrace farther that it’s been before.
