So what is Mitzvah Day?
Mitzvah Day is a wonderful opportunity for your congregation to participate in the holy task of tikkun olam, repairing the world. Mitzvah Day is a concerted effort, on a single day, to bring the entire congregation together to spend one day volunteering with social justice projects/activities in the community. Congregants choose from a variety of projects that cater to diverse interests, capabilities, and ages. – Union of Reform Judaism
We can’t wait to join you for another memorable Mitzvah Day on March 28, 2010!
Loren Kaplan & Shelly Wellins, Mitzvah Day Co-chairs
I look forward to spending Sunday, March 28 with our TBS Family as we reach out to our Santa Ana and Orange County Community for this incredible Mitzvah Day! Remember, each of us can make a difference, one mitzvah at a time! See you all there! Rabbi Heidi Cohen If I am not for myself, who will be for me? But if I am only for myself, who am I? And if not now, when? |
Thank you so much to our sponsors!

In the mid 1990’s, congregant Cookie Stern and Rabbi Donnell attended a URJ Biennial Conference. There, Cookie attended a session about social action, and she realized that there was so much more our congregation could be doing to help those in need. She came back to share what she had learned, and with the support of Rabbi Donnell and the TBS Board, our congregation’s Mitzvah Day tradition began. The first one took place in 1997, making this the 14th year of serving our community as a community!
So many people have been involved in the evolution of the TBS Mitzvah Day. Lori Weinberg assisted Cookie for a number of years, before taking the helm herself. For the last three years, the event has been lead by the incredible team of Sharon Evans, Andrea Wasserman and Pam Honsberger-Brown. Together with the activity leaders and countless members of our congregation, we have connected with local organizations, and supported programs across Orange County.
