Welcome home to Camp Sholom!
This week at Camp Sholom!
Week #8: August 11th -15th

Monday - After a morning of fun activities, Camp Sholom will be going to the Discovery Science Center!  Please remember to wear your Camp Sholom t-shirts.  If Week 8 is your first week at camp, we will have a shirt ready for you on Monday morning.

Tuesday - Beach day at Corona Del Mar.  Please send extra snacks for your campers. Campers MUST wear their Camp Sholom shirts in the water.  You may wish to send a second Camp Sholom shirt so your camper has a dry shirt to wear while not in the water. Please note that the snack bar is OPEN this summer and you may choose to send your child with a few dollars.  Campers will be able to purchase snacks in the afternoons.  Please note...the snack bar is very pricey - most food items cost between $3.50-$6.00.

Wednesday -  Today we will be swimming at the William Woollett Aquatic Center in Irvine.  There are some vending machines in the complex so you may choose to send your child with some money for snacks.  We will have snacks avaialble for children without money.

Thursday - Camp Sholom is going to Wild Rivers!  Please make sure that your child comes to camp with a bathing suit underneath his or her camp shirt.  Sunscreen should be applied at home and you should provide your child with the bottle to reapply throughout the day.  We are not allowed to bring in sack lunches to Wild Rivers so please give $6 (exact change) to your child's counselor for lunch.  We will be purchasing lunch vouchers for each camper. If you wish to send your child with additional money for treats please place the money in a ziplock bag with your child's name and give it to a unit counselor in the morning.

Friday-
Today is the last day of Camp Sholom 2008!  After an activity-filled morning, the annual Camp Sholom Carnival will begin at 1:00 p.m.  In addition to carnival games, prizes, and treats, we will celebrate Shabbat together and end the day with the Camp slideshow.  Campers enrolled for Week #8 do not need to bring a lunch today. Lunch will be provided for them. Any child who attended Camp Sholom this summer is invited to the Carnival at 1:00 p.m.
Lunches
Please pack your camper's lunch in a ziploc or brown paper bag (no lunch boxes please).  They will go into coolers and we need to make sure we have enough room for everyone's lunches.
Sunscreen
Please make sure to put lots of sunscreen on your camper BEFORE bringing him/her to camp in the morning.  Also, make sure to pack extra sunscreen so we can reapply during the day.
Bottled Water
Please remember to send your camper with extra water for beach days.  It's hot out there and we want to make sure everyone is drinking enough liquids.

Mitzvah Corner

As Jews we are commanded to engage in G'milut Chasadim, acts of loving-kindness.  Each week we highlight a different mitzvah opportunity in which your family may choose to participate.

ANOTHER MITZVAH OPPORTUNITY!

Help give life-saving vaccinations to impoverished children by nominating the GiveVaccines.org project

Dear Friends,
I'd like to tell you about an important project which was recently approved by the American Express' Members Project for the opportunity to win a $2.5 million grant. It's called "GiveVaccines.org; End Curable Childhood Disease" and with your support this non-profit venture could get funding from American Express.
Here is an EASY 2 STEP approach for registering your nominating vote (this should take less than 2 minutes):
Click on the following link and come back to this email after registering.
 https://www.membersproject.com/registration/guest_signup.html
Once registered click on the following link and then click on the "NOMINATE THIS PROJECT" Button.   http://www.membersproject.com/project/view/FEEYYM

You should see sparkling stars in the field and it will say that you have successfully nominated the project.
PLEASE NOTE: You can always search for "GiveVaccines" in the "Search" field followed by clicking on the GiveVaccines result which will take you to the correct project.
Members Project is an exciting initiative that brings people together to make a difference in the world. It's simple. People go online to share ideas for projects - and ultimately vote on which projects get $2.5 million in funding from American Express.  These funds will help us further develop the GiveVaccines.org site to maximize donations for years to come.
In 2007, Members Project provided clean drinking water to children all across Africa. What will Members Project do this year? With your help, needy children around the world will receive needed life-saving vaccines. Please nominate our project.
Also, Please DON'T FORGET to go to http://GiveVaccines.org and challenge your vocabulary skills while at the same time help children in desperate need.

Thank you,
Sam Rabinowitz, MD
