The Brotherhood (Men's Club) at Temple Beth Sholom offers a variety of activities. There are opportunities for social and educational events, as well as Temple and community service. We are proud of the accomplishments of this group of remarkable gentlemen who work hard to support the youth programs of the Temple. All men at TBS are welcome to participate in this wonderful organization.

Why Brotherhood?
Mark Borovay, Brotherhood President
You may have received your temple membership renewal in the mail and started checking off the various boxes for membership levels, ARZA membership, Religious School fees and Brotherhood membership. You pause, wondering what is Brotherhood and why should you should join? Why should you check that box?
Before I answer this question, let me tell you about my experience. Like many of you, I was a member of Brotherhood before I knew it. My wife, Sylvia, a Sisterhood member of many years and a recent past-president, paid my dues along with our temple membership. She thought it was the right thing to do.
Initially, I was not very involved. I attended some Brotherhood functions like Monday Night Football parties and, of course, the famous Christmas Day Pancake Breakfast.
I met the members and found that I really enjoyed the camaraderie among the men I met. One of the members of our chavurah is an active member and, when he was Brotherhood President, he asked me if I would be willing to do something for the organization. It did not take a lot of time. I began to order JNF for Brotherhood members for friends and loved ones at the temple. Then, my friend asked me to become Vice President. of Programming. I found it hard to turn down the request of a judge. As V.P. of Programming, I helped plan many activities such as Family Bowling and helped re-launch our now popular Speaker Series. Our Speakers Series topics included Homeland Security, the Anti-Defamation League, Santa Ana Police Department, and Financial Planning. In the last year, our Brotherhood featured speakers such as Sandra Hutchins, the new O.C. Sheriff, and Marvin Kaplan from the Merage Foundation. We also began our Father-Son camp-outs, attended Ducks and Angel baseball games, and enjoyed Theatre and Dinner nights.
Why join Brotherhood? Your financial support allows us to continue with our programs, fund pre-school, ‘campership’ programs and post-confirmation trips to Washington, D.C. and New York City. Our dues also supplement temple activities and support our parent organization Men of Reform Judaism. With your support and participation, you will help keep our Brotherhood active, vibrant and growing.
You may not have been able to join us for the river-rafting trip this summer but perhaps next year you and your family will share in the many exciting activities planned for the next year! Do you play baseball or poker? Enjoy beach parties? Fishing? Volunteer? Engage in social action activities? Handy with your hands? We would like your ideas for this coming year. May this New Year be the one when you check that box and say "Yes, I’m going to join Brotherhood!” May you and your family be inscribed in the Book of Life and may 5870 be one filled with love, joy, happiness and success.
