Southern Rabbis and the Struggles for Civil Rights in the South: 1954-1967

Instructor: Rabbi Allen Krause

This course gives a brief look at some very brave men, and some who could not rise above the fear that was a constant presence in the deep south of the 1960's. One Rabbi surprised his congregation by appearing on television on the Dais at a National NAACP Conference. While another was the darling of the Ku Klux Klan. Illustrated lectures will bring life to material from one of the most turbulent periods in American History.

We invite you to join this "hands-on" cooking class, guarenteed to help you and your family celebrate the Jewish holidays' traditional foods with a "twist". Participants will learn how to prepare several dishes and then enjoy eating them while we have a short discussion about the history and/or relevance of the different items. All recipes, aprons, cooking utensils and ingredients are provided. Just bring your thirst for knowledge and "hunger" for tasty foods! And please wear comfortable shoes - you will be on your feet almost the entire class.
